Iced Chai
Iced Chai • Quick Steep Method
Original Chai Blend, Golden Turmeric Chai, Candied Ginger Chai, Rose Petal Chai
1. In a glass measuring cup, add 1 tablespoon of your favourite chai blend and 1 tablespoon sugar.
2. Add 1/2 cup boiling water and steep for 5+ minutes.
3. Stir well and strain over ice in a tall glass.
4. Top-up with milk, cream or substitute. Makes 1 cup.
Iced Chai • Cold Brew Method
Original Chai Blend, Golden Turmeric Chai, Candied Ginger Chai, Rose Petal Chai
Cold Brewing is a slow process that involves basically soaking your ingredients (in this case, chai spices, black tea and sugar) in cold filtered water ideally overnight, or for approximately 12 hours. The benefits of making cold brewed iced chai are that a) it is a simple process b) you kind of forget about it and then open your refrigerator to it the next day c) it tastes great and makes a delicious beverage and d) you can easily store extra chai for a week or so since the milk isn't added during the actual brewing process. The drawback is... TIME. So if you are going to use the cold brew method to make your iced chai, make sure you plan ahead and get your chai "brewing" the night before you want to drink it!
As with other brewing and steeping methods, it is important to use good water. Try to use filtered water if possible. You can use previously boiled water, too, that has cooled. The purest water possible will give you the best results possible.
To make 4 cups of Iced Chai:
- In a large Mason Jar, measure 2-3 heaping tablespoons of your favourite Shanti Chai & Co chai blend and 2-3 tablespoons sugar.
- Fill jar with cold filtered water and stir. Cover and refrigerate for 8-12 hours.
- Stir well and strain over ice in a tall glass.
- Top-up with milk, cream or substitute.
Tip: Keep extra chai refrigerated for up to a week (without milk).
Iced Herbal Tea
Iced Herbal Tea • Quick Steep Method
Nettle & Rose Blend, Happy Hibiscus Blend, "Mom's Garden" Blend, "New Momma" Blend, Peppermint Tea, Tulsi Tea
When we think of iced tea, we often think of a classic: black tea over ice, with a squeeze of lemon and tablespoon (or two... or three!) of sugar. Another world of iced tea includes those in the "herbal tea" category. This includes tisanes and herbal blends, and ingredients such as flowers, herbs, spices, berries and fruits. Some of our favourite ingredients in herbal teas are the mints (peppermint, spearmint), herbal powerhouses like nettle leaf and raspberry leaf, and flowers like hibiscus, lavender and rose petals. While herbal teas are delicious and soothing enjoyed hot (maybe with lots of honey, a good book and slippers!) they can also be delightful served over ice on a hot day. There are several methods for preparing any iced tea. For iced tea made with herbs and flowers, we recommend the Quick Steep Method. Herbs, berries, fruits and spices stand up well to boiling water (unlike, for example, green teas which are more delicate and do better with water that is lower than boiling temperature) and with a slightly longer-than-usual steep, their flavours usually come out just fine! Finally, with the Quick Steep Method you can go from loose herbal tea to cold iced tea in less than 10 minutes!
To make 1 cup of Iced Herbal Tea:
- In a glass measuring cup, add 2 teaspoons of your favourite Shanti Chai & Co herbal tea and (optionally) 1-2 teaspoons honey or other sweetener.
- Add 1 cup boiling water and steep for 5-10 minutes
- Stir well and strain over ice in a tall glass.
(Tip: experiment with steep time, until you find your desired level of flavour!)

Iced Black Tea
Iced Black Tea • Cold Brew Method
Assam Tea, English Breakfast Tea, Earl Grey Tea
- In a large Mason jar, measure 2-3 tablespoons of your favourite Shanti Chai & Co black tea, and (optionally) 1-3 tablespoons of sugar or other sweetener.
- Fill jar with cold filtered water and stir. Cover and refrigerate for 12 hours.
- Stir well and strain over ice in a tall glass.
- For a traditional iced tea add fresh lemon to taste. For a creamy iced tea, skip the lemon and top instead with milk or cream. Makes 4 cups.
Tip: If you want to wait until serving to sweeten, use simple syrup to keep the texture smooth.
Iced Green Tea
Iced Green Tea • Quick Steep Method
Sencha Green Tea, Milk Oolong Tea
- In a glass measuring cup, add 2 teaspoons of your favourite Shanti Chai & Co green tea and (optionally) 1-2 teaspoons of sugar or other sweetener.
- Add ½ cup slightly under boiled water and steep for 5 minutes.
- Stir well and strain over ice in a tall glass. Makes 1 cup.
Tip: As with all hot and cold teas, filtered water makes for the best flavour and cup of tea!
